What players say about Talisman: Digital 5th Edition

Talisman: Digital 5th Edition is a polarized title that offers a streamlined, modernized take on the classic board game, but currently struggles to justify its price compared to its predecessor. While some players appreciate the faster, more forgiving rules and updated visuals, many find the lack of content and lingering technical issues disappointing.

What players like

  • Streamlined gameplay mechanics 12 of 56 reviews

Many players appreciate that the game feels faster and more forgiving than previous editions, with optional rule sets that allow for customization.

  • Modern visual updates 10 of 56 reviews

The updated graphics, including new card art, animations, and lighting effects, are generally praised as a fresh and appealing change.

  • Developer commitment 6 of 56 reviews

Reviewers note that the developers are active, responsive to community feedback, and have implemented patches since launch.

What players criticise

  • Lack of content 15 of 56 reviews

A frequent complaint is the lack of expansions compared to the 4th edition, leaving the base game feeling bare-bones for long-time fans.

  • UI and card readability 12 of 56 reviews

Reviewers frequently cite that the UI is cluttered, fonts are too small, and key card information is hidden in bottom windows rather than being legible on the cards themselves.

  • Bugs and performance 10 of 56 reviews

Technical issues such as crashes, game-breaking bugs during spell casting, and AI errors are reported by a significant portion of users.

  • Unappealing aesthetic choices 8 of 56 reviews

Some players feel the art style is blurry, overly generic, or lacking the distinct charm of previous editions, with bright, distracting map lines.

Best for: Players who enjoy the core mechanics of Talisman and want a faster, modernized experience with active, ongoing development.

Not for you if: Players who prefer the extensive content library of the 4th edition and are sensitive to UI usability issues or early-access style bugs.

I'm a player of the original board game and I've really enjoyed these digital versions. This 5th edition is a fantastic upgrade to the classic, the new art and additional gameplay options are great.

Only one significant bug, and it's a REALLY big one. You cannot complete trial 4 of the dlc, and therefore the minotaur is completely unobtainable. But other than that, it's a pretty fun game.

There are zero reasons to play Talisman 5th Edition over the 4th Edition. The only (meningful) difference is that it is slightly simpler.

Unfortunately, that simplification comes at the cost of almost everything that made the previous edition enjoyable and replayable.

Technically, it is worse. The ilustrations and some of the design choices feel like a downgrade rather than an improvement.

There is significantly less content. Compared with the 4th Edition and its expansions, the game feels much more limited in terms of characters, cards, variety, and replayability.

It is much less satisfying to play. The simplifications remove some of the unpredictability, progression, and sense of adventure that made Talisman memorable in the first place. And the ending is just anticlimatic.

The 5th Edition may be easier and faster to finish, but unless those are your main priorities, the 4th Edition is simply way better game.

This blows dude! This is NOT what it seems! Its deceptive! You don't get to build your own boards or cards like it claimed and Only a few DLCs are out. They were supposed to come out with one or two last summer. NEVER HAPPENED! I think they've stopped working on it.

Plus: Its buggy and choppy, some of the characters are missing, its just not what it seems. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR, GET THE ORIGINAL TALISMAN
