What players say about NavalArt
NavalArt is widely praised as an exceptional naval design sandbox that grants players near-total creative freedom to build anything from historical replicas to bizarre, unrealistic warships. While the building mechanics are powerful and satisfying for enthusiasts, the experience is hindered by a steep learning curve, an unintuitive interface, and a lack of polish, including a challenging campaign and technical bugs.
What players like
-
Unrivaled creative freedom 18 of 48 reviews
Players appreciate the ability to design ships without restrictive weight or hull limits, allowing for everything from detailed historical recreations to absurd, massive warships.
-
Active modding community 9 of 48 reviews
The Steam Workshop is frequently cited as essential, providing mods that significantly expand the available parts and ship designs, which helps overcome the limited base game options.
-
Rewarding building loop 8 of 48 reviews
Despite the effort required, fans find it highly rewarding to test their custom creations against other ships or air raids to see how they perform in practice.
What players criticise
-
Difficult, unrefined building system 9 of 48 reviews
Many users struggle with the editor, noting that adjusting hull parameters is tedious, moving parts requires painstaking manual effort, and basic tasks like selecting multiple items are missing.
-
Steep learning curve 7 of 48 reviews
Newcomers often find the game confusing and poorly documented, with tutorials that are either missing, unhelpful, or fail to explain complex mechanics.
-
Lack of polish and stability 6 of 48 reviews
Reports of crashes, long loading times, and a lack of structure in the campaign suggest the game is still rough around the edges, with some users unable to access parts of the game.
Best for: Players who enjoy deep, complex sandbox construction games and have the patience to master an intricate builder to create highly customized naval vessels.
Not for you if: Players looking for a polished, pick-up-and-play experience, or those who get frustrated by complex UIs and lack of in-game guidance.
NavalArt — questions players ask
- Is there a tutorial?
- While the game has introduced tutorials, reviews describe them as confusing, incomplete, or difficult to follow, often leaving new players to rely on trial-and-error.
- Does it have a campaign?
- The game currently lacks a structured or fully developed campaign, leaving players to rely on custom battles or self-created objectives.
- Can I run it on an older computer?
- The game is noted as being well-optimized, with users reporting that it runs smoothly even on older laptop hardware.

-Building NavalArt is a true labor of love. As an indie dev, my vision was simple but massive: to craft the definitive PC naval sandbox. It's been a long voyage since our 2018 Early Access launch, and I couldn't have weathered it without the phenomenal support of this community. Every piece of your feedback has shaped the hull of this game. Thank you for believing in this project. I'll always welcome your thoughts in the Steam discussions as we continue to perfect the experience.
Game Description:
-NavalArt is a sandbox game that combines design, construction, physics, and combat, offering players a variety of experience in different stages. Players will play as designer, engineer, and commander, respectively, and guide their fleets through the ages of steel and nerve.
Gameplay
-As a player, you will construct your warships in dock, using parts offered by the game or the mod community. Through careful placing and adjusting of parts, with an incredibly high degree of freedom, you can shape your warships to anything you like, from overall hull shapes, to tiny anchor chains.
-Each property is critical to your design, as different armor & weapon layouts will have different effects. Take your unfinished/newly finished ships for trials, and see if it is satisfactory.
-In Quick Battles and Operations, utilize a vast arsenal of weapons spanning from the 19th to the 21st century—including naval guns, torpedoes, carrier-based aircraft, missiles, and more—to annihilate your enemies, complete missions, and claim victory.
-Arm your ship with Anti-Air weapons, including Phalanx CIWS, try to survive in the test scene after several waves of air strikes!
-Experience unique RTS-style Aircraft Carrier gameplay, where altitude is a crucial resource for your warplanes. Configure your squadrons, assign specializations, seize air superiority, and launch devastating aerial strikes against the enemy fleet.
-Walk around your ships as a fellow sailor in Gallery Mode, lineup your fleet and enjoy the parade from your flagship!
-Not in the mood of designing ships? Want more parts to use in the game? Don't forget to visit NavalArt's Steam Workshop to get thousands of warship designs and mods!

Cool game.
Bought this game when it first released years ago. It was a glorified tech demo back then, and I didn't touch it for years. Nowadays though, it is an extremely well made sandbox with tons of parts and endless possibilities. If you've played games like Warshipcraft on mobile as a kid, you'll love this.
I love getting lag in a 10v10 multiplayer
Warships are awesome
Good game with an in depth builder and campaign. Good combat and fun art.
