What players criticise
-
Poor user experience and interface 12 of 59 reviews
The menus are frequently described as cluttered and confusing, with a lack of visual feedback that makes navigating game systems difficult.
-
Inconsistent game balance 11 of 59 reviews
Users report that difficulty swings wildly from brutally impossible to mindlessly easy once the player understands how to snowball the economy.
-
Overwhelming onboarding 9 of 59 reviews
New players find the initial tutorials to be text-heavy and daunting, often failing to explain the core mechanics clearly enough for a smooth start.
Best for: Players interested in the history of computing and grand-strategy management sims who value mechanical depth over graphical polish or ease of use.
Not for you if: Players who prefer intuitive, streamlined user interfaces or balanced, pick-up-and-play experiences that do not require extensive trial-and-error.
Computer Tycoon — questions players ask
- Is the game difficult to learn?
- Yes, it features a steep learning curve. While the tutorials exist, many players find them overwhelming and struggle to grasp the core mechanics early on.
- Can I play this on an older computer?
- Yes, system requirements are very gentle, as the game functions primarily as a text- and 2D-based simulation.
- Does the game become repetitive?
- Some players find that once they understand how to dominate the market and maximize profit, the mid-to-late game phase can feel repetitive.

Description
Computer Tycoon is a grand strategy and business management hybrid about Computer Evolution and starting your own company in the 70s. Lead the research race until 2034, create the best hardware and operating system, take care of your infrastructure, handle your marketing, lead your team of experts, find video game gems to promote them on your platforms, conquer the global market, and become immortal!
Computer Tycoon differs from other building/tycoon games because it has a "grand strategy game" aspect. You will control your "computer empire" by viewing a world map and managing resources. You won't build a park or railways, and you won't arrange furniture in offices, instead of these you will analyze the market and find ways to be profitable, reinvest in research, and push out your opponents from the business.
Unlike other games, here you will see your opponents' products and their pricing, which will compete with yours on a real, simulated market. Computer Tycoon is more complex than most modern Tycoon games today. This means that the game has a steeper learning curve, but on the Beginner difficulty level (especially by turning off opponents) you can have a Sandbox-like experience as well.

Start your adventure in the 70s as a small business somewhere in the world. Learn more about hardware and software inventions that were the first steps to our current modern world, and get a taste of what is waiting for us in the future. Find the classic video games and help a new culture to be born.

In Computer Tycoon the decisions you make during development really matter. Take advantage of the technology, upgrade and design combinations! Does your product need more computing capacity or should you focus more on features, low price, or prestige? Maybe change to portable computers or develop more easy-to-use Operating Systems? These decisions will have a major impact on the success of your company.
![]()
Smartly expand your corporation into multiple countries, and build more offices, factories, laboratories, and other required facilities. Poor countries have cheaper labor, but richer countries will give you more educated engineers.
![]()
Having the best product isn't enough. Finding the right partner and managers is as important as a good product. Balance your budget well between development, production, marketing, and expansion.

You can win the game by becoming a monopoly or reaching the technological singularity if you are fast enough - but living through 60 years of computer history is let alone a victory!

User Reviews
This could be an interesting game but unfortunately it has the worst user interface of any simulation game I have ever played (and I played many). Also, the logic for setting things up does not make sense. I am perfectly OK with a text only simulation (e.g. Wall Street Raider) that has a lot of complexity, but Computer Tycoon is a clear case of a programmer that has no sense for game flow, how business works and how to create a good user experience. I am sorry, but that game is just a waste of time. I usually do not write reviews - but if something is so awful like this, I want to warn people to not waste time on this game.
I really like this game , and I am very happy that developer added scenario I asked for like a 1-2 years ago
it has huge tech tree and as a tech rusher in games I really like that . Also bussines part of the game is fun , when you make good products to the masses
just a good game and i have not found a game this good for the price and quality and some ♥♥♥♥. only a complain is that aftewr one long game it cna feel the same after awhile and the new logistics system is ewcxtremely slow making nieghe impossible to develope your strategy and leave unprofitable countries.
Awesome game. Steep learning curve, but thankfully the in game tutorial is more than sufficient. This game also has tutorials on Youtube if you'd want more knowledge on the game. This game gets updates so it's not like you are buying a dead game. 10/10.
Things I'd like to see added in the future
* A system that allows companies to buy out other ones.
* A system that allows companies to be founded later in the game and getting replaced if one goes bankrupt.
That's all and I hope you enjoy this game as much as I do
♥♥♥♥ game
