User Reviews
BLORBIT is a colorful 3D climbing platformer that turns a simple journey upward into an increasingly demanding test of timing, positioning, and gravity manipulation. Developed and published by jog16889, the game centers on a small, charming creature attempting to climb through a continuous sequence of environments that eventually stretches beyond the clouds and into space. Its premise is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing the movement mechanics and the tension of maintaining altitude to carry the experience. The result is an arcade-like platformer that looks cheerful and welcoming while gradually revealing a much more unforgiving personality.
Gravity manipulation is the feature that gives the platforming its distinctive character. Instead of depending exclusively on ordinary jumps, players must understand when changing gravity will create a safe route and when doing so will send them in completely the wrong direction. This adds a spatial puzzle element to otherwise reflex-driven traversal. The basic idea can be understood quickly, but applying it under pressure becomes considerably harder when several platform types and environmental hazards are involved. A successful sequence of jumps and gravity changes can feel wonderfully fluid, while a single poor decision can result in losing a painful amount of altitude.
The platform selection helps keep the ascent from becoming monotonous. Alongside conventional surfaces are moving, fragile, bouncing, and gravity-sensitive platforms, each demanding a slightly different approach. Fragile surfaces encourage immediate decisions, moving platforms emphasize timing, and bouncing objects can dramatically alter momentum. Gravity-dependent platforms naturally reinforce the game's signature mechanic. The challenge comes from encountering these elements in combinations that require players to read the situation quickly rather than treating every jump as an isolated obstacle.
Progression through six connected biomes gives the climb a satisfying visual identity. The journey begins in relatively peaceful natural surroundings before advancing through forests, cliffs, clouds, auroras, and eventually space. This environmental transformation provides an effective representation of progress because players can actually see how far removed they are from the lower regions. Reaching a new biome therefore feels like an accomplishment in itself. The colorful cartoon presentation also creates an amusing contrast with the anxiety caused by being high above previously conquered areas and knowing that one mistake could send the character tumbling downward.
Several modes expand the concept beyond a straightforward climb. Endless Mode focuses on reaching the greatest possible height before failure, making it ideal for players interested in personal records and repeated improvement. Daily Challenge provides a shared generated seed, creating consistent conditions for comparing performance with other players. Global leaderboards strengthen the competitive side by giving skilled climbers measurable goals beyond simply completing individual sections. Zen Mode offers a more relaxed alternative for anyone who enjoys the movement and environments but does not always want the pressure associated with punishing falls.
Online multiplayer introduces races for up to ten players using the same seed. Soft collisions create some interaction between competitors without allowing the experience to become entirely dominated by interference. Racing other players changes the psychology of climbing because taking a safer route may sacrifice valuable time, while aggressive movement can produce either a spectacular advantage or an equally spectacular fall. It is a sensible extension of the core mechanics and provides additional value for players who prefer direct competition instead of exclusively chasing leaderboard positions.
Cosmetic progression adds another incentive to continue attempting runs. Orbs collected during play can be used to unlock customization choices involving skins, eyes, hats, capes, trails, hairstyles, glasses, mustaches, and other decorative options. These rewards preserve the skill-focused nature of the game because they provide personalization rather than replacing mechanical improvement with statistical advantages. There are also ten legendary creatures hidden throughout Endless Mode, and completing that collection leads to a special Astral skin. This gives players an additional objective beyond simply climbing as high as possible.
The overall feature set is quite healthy for such a focused platformer. Achievements, Steam Cloud functionality, leaderboards, online competition, single-player modes, and extensive customization give the game several overlapping progression loops. Its greatest limitation is likely to be repetition. Players who become frustrated by losing significant progress or who require constant narrative developments may struggle with the structure. The game is fundamentally about attempting difficult sequences, failing, understanding what went wrong, and applying that knowledge during another climb. Enjoyment therefore depends heavily on having an appetite for precision platformers where mechanical mastery is the primary reward.
Regarding Steam Deck compatibility, BLORBIT does not currently appear to have an official Valve Steam Deck compatibility rating. This means it should be treated as officially unverified rather than assumed to be Verified or Unsupported. Its relatively straightforward platforming controls may make handheld play conceptually suitable, but actual performance, controller behavior, interface readability, and other Deck-specific details can vary until Valve provides an official compatibility assessment.
BLORBIT ultimately succeeds by taking a recognizable climbing-platformer formula and giving it an effective gravity-based identity. Its combination of increasingly dangerous vertical traversal, varied platform behaviors, six changing biomes, procedural challenges, competitive modes, collectibles, cosmetics, and relaxed Zen play gives a seemingly simple concept respectable depth. It will be most rewarding for players who enjoy improving through repetition and who can laugh off a disastrous fall before immediately attempting another climb. For that audience, its balance of cute presentation and demanding mechanics makes the journey toward space surprisingly compelling.
Rating: 7/10
Bouncy, goofy physics, your dude ragdolls and flops all over the place, and it's funny every time instead of annoying. Dying is actually a highlight: your character flops over, drops a dumb "last words" speech bubble, and leaves a little tombstone behind for next run. I've died on purpose just to see the line.
Collecting the weird little creatures (bees, whales, a crystal thing, apparently a bush counts??) feels like a fun scavenger hunt, and snagging a legendary one in Endless mode is a genuine "whoa" moment.
Bots filling in online matches means you get instant chaos even without a full friend group, and the leaderboard gives you a reason to keep going past "one more run."
It's not deep, it's not trying to be, it's a silly, bouncy "let's see what happens" game that makes you grin like an idiot. Perfect if you just want to laugh and not think.
