Description

If out of bed on summer’s night

You hear the crack of lightning bright,

And spying there a shadowed shape,

Fear not, my girl, nor flee in fright

The scarecrow’s on his watch tonight.

Your father said he'd be back before Christmas. That was two years ago.

Now your mother's moving to work at a radar station in the rural edges of New Zealand, and unfortunately for you, she's taking you with her. To make matters worse, there's something rotten lurking in the bush beyond your grandfather's house... and it's coming for the two of you.

Oh, and don't think the scarecrow will help you. He's useless.

Girl & Scarecrow is a short fantasy visual novel game with a moderate amount of choice, eight or so characters, a couple endings and a big rat.

Beautiful game with a very touching story from a child's perspective. This is really effective for a genre that's often about wildly diverging dialogue options and a feeling of helplessness. I'm not big on RPGs (this is not), but I've enjoyed this so much that I'm eyeing their other titles! I'm certainly looking forward to whatever the dev works on next!

I’d already bought the other games by Joe, but they’d sort of got lost in my backlog so I hadn’t played them yet, and when I saw this visual novel had come out, I took advantage of the bundle and decided to play it straight away.

It certainly cheered up my Tuesday! It’s a beautiful, classic visual novel, built on the RenPy engine. Apart from the stunning art, which speaks for itself, the story is good, straightforward without losing depth. It’s very well branched with lots of decisions to make, so it’s not as short as one might think (or maybe I’m a slow reader).

Think I’ve said it all. A big thumbs-up, and I look forward to playing the rest of the games as soon as I have the time.
