Description
Cold War Battles is a quick playing, easy to learn, Turn Based Hex and Counter Wargame. CWB features real and hypothetical conflicts from 1945-1990. Whilst simple to pick up and play there is still plenty of tactical depth, you will need to take terrain and cover into account as you move your troops, use smoke to block line of sight, decide when and where to unload your transports or call in Artillery and face a tough AI opponent as competent at attacking as it is defending.

Whilst this release focuses mainly on what would have happened if the Cold War between NATO and the Warsaw Pact had gone 'hot' between 1945 and 1990 it also features scenarios from the fringes of the Cold War. Lead units into battle from the Northern tip of Norway in the early 80's to the Golan Heights in '73, Germany in the 80's to Vietnam in the 60's and more.
Command historically accurate formations from Company to Battlegroup size across decades of conflict.
Easy to learn, hard to master turn based tactics without complex Logistics or spreadsheets of obscure data to wade through.
Classic Hex and Counter Board Wargame feel.

Over 400 real world units and formations from more than 15 nations and factions so far.
5 decades of conflict.

Turn based battles across 40+ handcrafted single player scenarios (So far) plus 20 missions in 4 mini campaigns along with a randomised battle generator.
500m hex size and Platoon / Troop sized Unit Counters.

Plenty of challenging scenarios across a range of Theatres and timelines, including missions set in conflicts and timelines rarely seen in computer wargames such as Angola, Grenada and Norway as well as central Europe and the Middle East.
Multiple computer player battle plans for each scenario to keep Commanders on their toes.
Use Recon units to scout the way, push transports as close as you dare, maybe covered by smoke, unload your infantry to take objectives whilst your armour flanks the foe and artillery bombards targets of opportunity... Or sit and watch as the enemy does the same. With attack, defence and meeting engagement missions, command formations from Company to Battlegroup size across decades of warfare.

User Reviews
Could of swore I left a negative review based on turn limits in the past, not sure why that was deleted, but I did try it anyway and am pleased to note it don't effect the game as much as others in this genre.
This game is on the entry level beer and pretzels end of the genre which fills a need for the time period covered.
These scenarios are short but violent just like the Cold War battlefields both real and fictional covered by the game. And the time limits feel well balanced enough that by the time the limit hits the attacking forces would be exhausted and out of the increased supplies needed for a sustained offensive.
The dev is engaged and still making content as of time of this review, and I hope he'll see fit to add tactical aircraft in the future.
Changing to a solid thumbs up.
I think this is pretty cool.
Similar to Panzer Leader Board Game series.
Also reminds me of Hex of Steel PC game.
Short scenarios.
Random Battle possible.
Can make your own scenarios.
Lots of Armies.
First off, you need to understand, what type of game this is, if old War Board Games, from Avalon Hill or SSI, sound familiar to you, then this is a computerized version of those types of games.
It is a hex, turn based game, which is easy to pick up and learn.
No spectacular graphics, just simple tactics, your army against the enemy's, on a map, face to face, fight or die.
So, if those games, appeal to you. Then Cold War Battles was made for you.
Also, it is a lot of fun. The enemy AI knows what its doing, so its not a roll over.
The variety of battles, and the free DLC (Middle East) just adds to the enjoyment of the game.
I've always liked those old War Board Games, and modern video versions of them, So, this is an automatic Very Positive Review for me.
Very good game fast modern combat strategy games updates new scenarios and nice look game.
A fast moving and fun tactical cold war simulation that has a strong operational feel that is easy to learn and play. With a short and concise user manual and intuitive user interface, you'll be shooting and maneuvering your platoons of armor and infantry in no time. The scenarios and campaigns offer a variety of missions and the units are rated for their unique combat characteristics with just enough differentiation that you'll experience the jubilation of your M1A1's firepower decimating the inferior armor of a T-55 at long range while the enemy struggles to get into effective range. Definitely looking forward to the release of the Middle East DLC.
