User Reviews
Three Weeks On The Atlantic - a brief review.
(A small disclaimer before anything else. The game is supposed to get a free remaster/remake treatment someday. I have no clue when exactly, I have no clue if world will allow it to be or if something stops that 'overhaul update' devs are planned. So with that in mind, anything I say here, might be invalidated some-time in the future and is only relevant to the current build of the game.)
Now to the meatballs and mashed potatoes of it...
Oh boy where do I begin? I don't want to go into too much detail, but a common courtesy demands I also at least bother to explain to the best of my ability, without this becoming an essay. I will note, this is indie project - passion project no less, so I am probably going to forgive enough. As far as I was told, this is also first project of the 'team'. If I had to take educated guess, it's all just learning arc for them and the follow up sequel already looks way more promising. Not sure if they aim to become long-standing dev studio or if they just want to share couple of stories for couple bucks, but we will see.
On that note, game is pretty cheap for what you are getting and IF you really aren't sure about buying it, just wait for sale. Not ideal, but there is no shame in being frugal with game buying after all. No matter how little, every sale supports the devs at the end, so there is that.
So, how about I start with technical stuff?
Up to this point, I have not faced any bigger bugs or issues. Audio might've gotten a bit clunky at one point and text here or there could have a typo or two, but for the most part it's smooth sailing on that side of the ship. Due to the engine/software used to create game, there might be a possibility of your saves getting nuked, if you prove to be very unlucky, but that's probably unlikely and the game is short enough that lost progress does not hurt that much.
As for the other aspects of the game, mainly creative choices. Welp. Rapid fire here, because frankly it's a lot of subjective stuff and I don't have any need to tell anyone what they should/shouldn't enjoy in their spare time.
Visuals - clearly made on budget, but it has charm to it. I only saw a few snippets of planned overhauls and the game is probably going to have a great leap in backgrounds and some character sprites, but for the most part the current (old) stuff holds up well enough. Not ideal, at times uncanny or very much strange to look at, but in other places just normal or even adorable.
There is some dissonance to it, but I think it can be forgiven.
Graphic-maxxers probably don't play many indies anyways.
Music - range from 'elevator music track 1' type of stuff to 'that is pretty good'. There are some silent periods, but most tracks don't overstay their welcome and usually provide background from the scene or give additional force to emotional development.
Nothing that would blow your socks off, but I would really need to sit down and THINK to find a objectively BAD one...at worst the intensity might not always align with visuals, but again that's probably budget stuff.
Narrative - alright, here it gets bumpy. I don't want to go into spoilers given this is pretty much VN-dating game so that is the CORE of the whole thing, but long story short - the pacing is very random at times, there are 'days' that feel very very short depending on your route AND the dialogue is just very hit or miss at times. Characters ARE very much likeable if you don't put a frown from the start, but endure at times cringe or completely out of pocket choices, which might a big ask for some, but given there are few routes to pick, anyone should be able to find SOMETHING and SOMEONE they like.
I did find both in side-characters and main-characters, even if some got more love than others.
As for general thoughts - I enjoyed my time with the game. It is far from best I've played. It has plenty of flaws one can point out, some obvious to the point of being weird that those stayed the way they are in final product, BUT I also very much understand the sheer amount of work, cordination and money that needs to be spent on a few simple well-written documents, let alone a game.
Devs said it themselves, they only want to get enough sales to break even, anything beyond that is for their future projects and just a nice bonus for 'job well done' I suppose. - I myself can only wish them luck with making new stuff hopefully with lessons learned from this project and support them should my own funds allow.
Not sure if this could be recommended to someone that doesn't already dwell in VNs or various furry-adjacent media, so keep that in mind.
The game itself is also decently easy to 100%, which I am currently on my path to do/already finished doing by the time I post this.
Mandatory recommendation to the less picky people that enjoyed either/both Snoot Game and/or Wani Hug that Gator. - This isn't like those games at the core, but it's close enough to home that most people won't complain about more HMOFA action. Also yes, I say the thing. Roll the curtain people.
P.S I wrote this when I was already a bit tired, I ain't gonna bother to check if I didn't make any typos myself. That is all.
TL;DR
This was good way to spend 2-4 late evenings. It has a lot of tiny or medium sized flaws, but the potential is there for improvements AND the approach showed by devs clearly shows that they are putting their hearts IN.
Depending how future goes, I may be proven wrong, but at the moment this feels as HEART first and PRODUCT second. If that remains so for their future works, I'll be glad to see what they do with them.
Pat on the back from me and good luck. :)
This is the type of game my friends are going to bully me over for playing but guess what liberals I don't care THIS ♥♥♥♥ GOOD AS ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Cavemanon Studios is disney renaissance era of hmofa vns then Crimson dragon studio is dreamworks antz era, alot rough on the edges in terms of plot with the main villain, overall fairly decent and would like to see more from this studio, probably should check the hard drive of the guy who made max
If you played Snoot game or I wani hug that gator then play this masterpiece, another Gem in the HMOFA VN genre.
This game gave me feelings that i have already started to forget after finishing good visual novels. Each story is a masterpiece with unique arts and storylines. I liked every part of this game so i have nothing to say bad about this. Soild 10/10.
