What players say about Don't Touch the Snail
Don't Touch the Snail is widely regarded as a unique and inexpensive desktop companion. While some players find the permanent end-of-game mechanic frustrating, the majority appreciate the novelty of the concept and its ability to function as a background task.
What players like
-
Unique and creative concept 12 of 28 reviews
Many players enjoy the high-stakes, minimalist design of having a snail track their mouse cursor as a desktop pet.
-
Non-intrusive background play 8 of 28 reviews
The game allows users to perform normal computer tasks, like working or browsing, while the game runs silently in the background.
-
Visuals and skins 4 of 28 reviews
Reviewers appreciate the variety of cosmetic skins available for the snail, adding a layer of collectibility to the experience.
What players criticise
-
Lack of replayability 10 of 28 reviews
A significant number of users express frustration that they cannot restart the game after losing, requesting a retry or new game button.
-
Technical and unexpected deaths 7 of 28 reviews
Some players report losing sessions due to mouse snapping, multi-monitor cursor issues, or inaccurate hit detection rather than actual gameplay errors.
Best for: Players who enjoy high-stakes, passive idle challenges that can run in the background while they focus on other work.
Not for you if: Players who dislike permadeath mechanics or those who get easily frustrated by accidental losses caused by system mouse behavior.
Don't Touch the Snail — questions players ask
- Can I play the game again after I lose?
- Currently, no. The game features a permanent end-of-session mechanic upon losing, which is a common point of contention among players who would like a retry option.
- Does the game interfere with my computer usage?
- It acts as a background app and does not block normal usage, though players should remain aware of their cursor position to avoid accidental deaths.
- Is the game difficult?
- The difficulty is subjective; while it is essentially an idle game, some users report the snail moves faster over time, and accidental deaths can occur easily.

User Reviews
it is very fun the only bad thing about it is that you can very easaly trap the snail just by moving your curser around it quickly and that it is very slow you should add a difficulty level but other than that it is a great game now I have to get back other wise I wont be able to keep playing
I already died, but i like seeing the snail on my monitor anyways, i like purchasing skins for it too, im gonna take big care of it
i was taking a screenshot of the snail with snipping tool and dragged across it without realizing and lost
final survival time was 3 minutes and 26 seconds
I didin't like how once you touch it, ur done.
I read the all of the TF2 comics while avoiding this little guy, 10/10 would avoid again
