100 StarPaws Cats takes the familiar hidden-object formula and turns it into a short, cheerful search through a densely illustrated world filled with feline faces. Developed and published by 100 Cozy Games and Cats, the game keeps its ambitions deliberately modest. There is one main objective: locate 100 cats concealed throughout a hand-drawn scene. It is the kind of experience designed for relaxation and completion rather than mechanical complexity, making it especially suitable for players who enjoy casual observation games or want something uncomplicated between longer gaming sessions.

The gameplay requires almost no learning curve. Players explore the illustration, carefully inspect its objects and scenery, and select every cat they discover. Early finds tend to come quickly, creating an enjoyable rhythm as cats are spotted one after another. The difficulty naturally increases as the remaining number decreases. Eventually, the search becomes less about scanning the obvious areas and more about noticing unusual outlines, small details, and cleverly disguised shapes. This gradual transition gives an otherwise straightforward concept a satisfying sense of progression.

A major strength is the hand-drawn presentation. Since practically the entire game revolves around examining one environment, the artwork needs enough personality and visual density to sustain attention, and the playful StarPaws theme gives the scene a distinctive identity. The cats are integrated into the environment rather than simply scattered around without consideration, encouraging players to study every corner. Zoom functionality is particularly important when searching for smaller targets, while adjustable brightness provides a useful accessibility option when certain details are difficult to distinguish.

Small audiovisual touches add personality to the hunt. Discovering cats is accompanied by genuine meow sounds, turning each successful click into a tiny reward. A combo counter also introduces an optional element of speed and performance. Players can simply search at their own pace, but quickly identifying several cats creates an additional challenge for anyone who wants more than a completely passive experience. Hints are available when progress stalls, preventing one stubbornly hidden cat from unnecessarily ruining the otherwise relaxed atmosphere.

Progress saving is another welcome inclusion because there is no requirement to complete the entire search in one session. Players can find a portion of the cats, leave, and return later. The game also relies very little on written language during actual play. Visual communication handles most of the experience, which makes the basic objective understandable regardless of language and fits the universal simplicity of spotting hidden objects.

Achievement collectors are given an especially clear incentive to reach full completion. The game includes 100 Steam achievements, creating a direct relationship between hunting cats and building achievement progress. Seeing achievements regularly appear can make each discovery feel more rewarding, particularly for players who enjoy completing inexpensive and compact Steam titles. At the same time, this structure does not disguise the limited amount of content. With only one primary level, reaching 100 percent completion effectively exhausts most of what the game has to offer.

Replay value is consequently modest. Once the locations of the cats have been learned, subsequent attempts cannot reproduce the uncertainty of the initial search. The combo mechanic can provide some motivation to replay more efficiently, but anyone expecting numerous levels, randomized locations, complex puzzles, narrative progression, or hours of evolving mechanics will find the experience comparatively thin. Its design works better as a brief cozy diversion than as a substantial hidden-object adventure.

The technical demands are appropriately light, matching the uncomplicated nature of the game. Steam Deck compatibility is officially categorized as Playable rather than fully Verified. Performance with the default graphics configuration is considered suitable, and the game can run successfully on SteamOS. However, handheld players should expect compromises. Some functionality is not fully accessible through the default controller configuration, touchscreen interaction or a community controller layout may occasionally be useful, and text entry can require manually opening the virtual keyboard. Some interface text may also appear small, while certain prompts can display keyboard, mouse, or non-Steam Deck controller icons. It is therefore functional on the Deck, but the experience is less seamless than a fully optimized handheld release.

Ultimately, 100 StarPaws Cats succeeds by remaining focused on what its audience is likely looking for: cute cats, attractive hand-drawn scenery, easy controls, relaxing searching, numerous achievements, and a manageable path toward completion. Its biggest limitation is its brevity and lack of broader gameplay variety, but those qualities are unlikely to bother players specifically seeking a small hidden-object experience. The zoom options, hints, saving system, meow feedback, combo mechanic, and achievement structure give the simple concept enough polish to make the search enjoyable from the first obvious cat to the frustratingly elusive hundredth.

The artist (?) is slipping on some of these designs. The "father" cat seems to have only two fingers on its left hand (our right, pov), and those two fingers are wrapped around the cat toy in a peculiar way. And the "starkiller" cat seems to have a finger on its right hand (our left, pov) that seems to be mysteriously detached from the hand itself and implanted on the laser sword, quite literally a thumb plate. I think I will hold off from purchasing games from this dev for awhile. I have to work on my backlog, anyway.

Absolute vibe! Looks awesome, tune's pretty nice, and it's super easy—you can easily speedrun it in under 15 mins. Plus, replaying it in black-and-white or color is a blast, definitely 10/10 and totally worth it on sale|
