One of the best Christian video games. I loved playing it. The gameplay isn't difficult at all, but instead the experience is very relaxing and the art and music is beautiful.
A sweet and captivating story game! The artwork and voice-work was well done and child-friendly. Inspiring and enjoyed the nod to previous other games. A hopeful and beautiful game experience.
The Serpent and the Seed is a beautiful game. It looks like a well illustrated children’s picture book. Honestly, it feels like that too. The puzzles are simple, and won’t challenge anyone over the age of ten. There are many characters as you move from story to story, but no voice actors. All of the dialogue is read by a narrator. When it’s all done, I felt more like I’d been to story time at the library than that I had completed a game. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I would guess the game will feel engaging to children around 9 or 10. The story is suitable for even younger kids, though they may need an older sibling or parent’s help if they are playing for themselves rather than just spectating. Older kids and adults can also enjoy the game but will feel it is geared for a younger crowd.
The story covers the entire Bible in the sense that it starts with the first chapters of Genesis and ends with the last chapters of Revelation. But it’s a pretty short game, and the Bible is a very long book. Obviously, it can only tell a few stories, and they are only covered in a cursory way. Here’s what is actually covered, to the best of my recollection:
• Creation and the Fall
• Abraham offering Isaac
• Moses confronting Pharaoh
• David and Goliath
• The parable of the sower
• The triumphal entry
• The last supper
• Gethsemane
• The crucifixion
• The resurrection
• The new heavens and earth
The game does a good job weaving all of these stories into a metanarrative. It’s all presented tastefully. I don’t have a problem with anything that was said, but I do think it was somewhat lacking. It shows that Jesus defeats the serpent, but there is no clear presentation of personal responsibility for sin or the need for repentance and faith.
Gameplay is pretty straightforward. It’s pretty much all just click or swipe, as there is also a mobile version of the game. There are a few times where I had to just click the screen randomly to get through. Progress is also slowed fairly often by songs which can’t be skipped.
Overall, there is a lot to like about the game and I applaud Discipleship Tech on the achievement.
It makes the gospel message simple for those who don't understand it. Plus it is very child friendly meaning children could safely play this game which is rare nowadays.
This is a great excellent and fun game to play. The best part is it tells everyone about what it like to be a Christian and what anyone playing this game will learn and enjoy stories and songs from a Bible!!
