Description
Overview:
Legends of Amberland III: The Crimson Tower is a classic western RPG inspired by the games from the 90s like Might & Magic, Wizardry, Ultima, the Gold Box series and others. Using the classic first-person perspective, over grid movement, turn-based system to travel in an open world with fast travel options and a quick combat. You lead a party of 7 adventurers, manually assembled or pre-made, on an epic adventure to fight the evil which lurks in Amberland. It's light, fairy tale, epic, heroic and slightly humorous. It does not take tons of hours to complete or require an endless grind to progress. Basically, it's a love letter from the 90s, the golden era of RPGs.
Notable features:
* First person perspective, 90 degree rotation, over grid movement (like in the 90s).* Turn-based (both combat and exploration).
* Party-based (7 heroes, either predefined or manually assembled upon new game).
* Fast paced combat, especially blazing fast against much weaker enemies.
* Quick travel to reduce backtracking.
* Easy inventory management with separate personal equipment encumbrance system and an infinite magic bag of carrying for items not equipped at the moment.
* Open world with a big overworld to explore.
* Quests (including both main storyline quests and side quests).
* Rich world lore (spanning between all games of the series, but no knowledge of prior games required).
Technicalities:
The game was designed to look and feel like one of the old games while working flawlessly on modern machines, especially on very high resolutions. It has very low hardware requirements and should run on even very old machines.About the relation to other games in the series:
The Legends of Amberland titles can be played in any order you wish. They share the same world and lore (historical events) but each has a separate and self-contained story. There might be some mild references to events in the previous titles of the series, but more like a flavor, so it does not hinder the ability to play those in any order.Supported languages: english, french, german, japanese, polish

Wow! What happened to the day? Its night outside... Definitely the game I've been looking for, for quite a while now. So far I am really enjoying it. One thing I like is there are a lot of critters to kill, so when I feel some are too hard I can go kill others and get stronger then come back. Very Fun. I look forward to seeing the rest of the game.
*Update: This is a great game. So much fun and so far none of them dumb Gotya things that the Devs from other games like to put in. (I hate them)
It took me about 350 hours of game play to complete all the achievements, and I loved every minute. This is a great solo dungeon crawler for us old farts, who won't be bothered by pixelated graphics (or are maybe merely nostalgic for simpler times). No fancy video, just old fashioned quests and monsters - have a blast!
The developer says this is the final game in the franchise and that he won't make more of them. My life is ruined.
Same as the first and the second: Is a bit shorter than those two, but still very enjoyable!
Fun and worth it!
This game feels like it was made with heart for players of party-based CRPG's, and it's well-done. It explains everything well, so it's a good game to start playing this kind of game.
There's a playable demo! Kudos to the devs for that!
Is the game fancy? Nope. You can see the pixel graphics. (Ugh, I hate pixel graphics.) The music has some variety, so don't give up on it as the same track loops a lot. There's not much voice acting or many cut scenes.
But character creation and leveling are fun and satisfying. I can see what different stats do and specialize my party members. There's a cool cover system where characters in the center get targeted a lot more, so the tougher people can protect the squishier ones. The magic and skill systems are cool. The game is fun! My team explores, helps people, and gets stronger with experience, gear, new spells. The old spells gain power as my people increase the right stats, so that keeps them relevant.
One (smallish) area will only have a few monster types, but there are lots and lots of areas to explore, so there's good variety. And environmental hazards are a thing... my people can take cold damage from cold areas. Also, no, my people can't walk on lava. Not without a LOT of fire resistance, at least. Poison, fear, petrified, etc. Save often, see the problem, come back when my people have leveled up and gotten some good gear to resist that problem. Good quality of life, too, so no worries with inventory space.
Anyway, this is a fun game which delivers very satisfying gameplay and does well. There's plenty of content to explore for 60+ hours. And then maybe create a new party with some differences and do it again. :) It isn't the most amazing looking and sounding game I can imagine. But it is awesome and totally worth full price.
I'm playing on Linux, and it just works.
