          Don't really know why this game is being negatively reviewed. It's great! Similar to the old beat-em-ups of the day (I.e. TMNT). Has the feel of Scott Pilgrim but is much more smooth and fun! Has the perfect difficulty (for me) and is great for fans of the show or comics. Very much recommend, especially on sale.

          Awesome pixel art adaptation of the series, but the game itself is rather short and lacks in content variety. Four playable characters with fairly large skill trees that require way too much grind to max out. At the end of my first playthrough I had about 1/3 of each skill tree upgraded on 3/4 characters you can use during your first run. The game does go into NG+ after final mission but it would still require way too many runs to max these.

          an absolute mess with some good implementations. just overall too short, lazy to NO VOICE ACTING and repetitive combat that is way too difficult for this type of game. needs a lot of work to make it worth buying above $10 bucks.

          also add BASIC COOP lazy devs, and maybe finish the actual story of the show lol

          The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival:
          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          There is no doubt that The Walking Dead is one of the most-watched series of the 21st century. My wife and I were fans of the series until the episode where Negan was introduced; after that, we pretty much left the series for dead. As for games, apparently there are 19, including this one. The most famous are the Telltale adventure/choice matters series, which I played the first couple of seasons and thoroughly enjoyed. Interestingly, and probably more surprisingly, no one has produced an action side-scroller around that theme. Just amazing, I reckon! So, when I saw this game was about to be released on Steam, I decided to give The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival a go.
          The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is a beat’em up action side-scroller game developed Odaclick Game Studio and published by Trailmark Games on the 19th of September 2026 on the Steam platform. The game is Steam Deck verified and is also available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
          Although it's not my favourite genre, I enjoy a good arcade brawler every now and then, and I must say my first impressions playing this game on my Steam Deck weren’t really the greatest. The pacing of the action felt a lot slower compared to some brawlers I’ve played, and that put me in a negative mindset from the start of the game. However, I decided to push through and wanted to see more in terms of the characters' playability, level design, and the overall gameplay. I am glad that I pushed through because I had fun playing the game despite its slow action pace.
          The game has 15 medium-length levels, and they're very well designed. Some of the action occurs on streets or in buildings, and on a few occasions, it has a bit of both, which I really like. The enemies that you’ll encounter throughout the game will be Zombies, of course, as well as the Saviors, whose leader is Negan. Thank god the developers introduced both types of enemy pretty quickly because it added a bit of spice for me to keep playing. And as we are all well-educated about Zombies, we know zombies in SWAT gear are the hardest to kill, while the others try to grab you for a bite but are reasonably easy to dispose of. On the other hand, the Saviors will not only have melee weapons, but all of them will have some sort of firearm, with some of them having high calibres capable of firing from a distance. With these two enemies combined in most levels, the gameplay felt more alive and fun despite the slow pace. You can hide behind boxes or simply roll to avoid bullets and other strikes from zombies or the Saviors men. You also have several mini bosses at the end of each level and, of course, the big final fight against Negan at the end of the game.
          In terms of characters, you can play as Rick, Michonne or Daryl in your first playthrough. However, in that playthrough you can choose only one of two characters in each mission, since the game follows, I believe, the storyline of the eight seasons of the television series. When you finish the game, you’ll unlock Negan, and then you can replay the entire game or each mission with whichever character you prefer.
          The four characters have distinctive weapons based on the TV series. Rick will be equipped with his recognisable gun but will use his hand as a melee weapon. He can pick up other melee weapons and firearms. Michonne has her katana as a melee weapon and can pick up firearms that she finds in furniture or the ones that are left behind by deceased Saviors men. Daryl uses his iconic crossbow as a ranged weapon and knives for melee; he can’t take any firearms, though. Negan is armed with the lovely Lucille (baseball bat) and can pick up other firearms, but no other melee weapons. The other things that you’ll be able to pick up are the medic packs, collectibles and knowledge, which some Zombies or Saviors men drop when they are killed. You use this knowledge to upgrade your characters after each mission.
          After each mission, you get back to a submenu which has four sections: missions, inventory, progression, and settings. The one you need to look for is the progression to upgrade your character’s perks. You need knowledge, and some perks also require character points; I’ll let you find out how to earn them. It’s the usual progression tree for health, combat, speed, etc. If you play with your Steam Deck, you might miss those sub-menus because they are not obvious on the Deck. I missed them for quite a while, but I do need to go to Specsavers as I am due for an eye check😎.
          I like the graphics, though they could be a bit sharper. The animations are pretty good too and flow nicely when you attack, crouch, run, and roll. I would have liked to have more combos per character than they have now to alleviate the gameplay and perhaps add a bit more difficulty to the gameplay. In terms of difficulty level, I finished the game on the normal settings and played a few missions on the hard mode and didn’t notice much difference, to be honest, which was a bit of a negative surprise to me.
          However, the biggest downside is the price. Yes, I had fun, and there is some replayability, but a base price of A$33 for the game plus an additional A$25 for a skin DLC is a bit rich. You can probably get two or even three better brawlers for that combined price. But if you are a BIG fan of the series, you might be willing to pay the asking price. I recommend waiting until the game is around 50% off before buying it. If the price was under A$20 for the base game, it would have been a good buy, but forget the DLC as it doesn’t add value.
          Positives:
          ~~~~~~~

          + Nice graphics and animations
          + Good level design, and the atmosphere of the Walking Dead is well-portrayed
          + You can play Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Negan (when unlocked)
          + Simple but adequate progression tree upgrades for each character
          + Different types of Zombies and Saviors enemies
          + Fun boss fights
          + Steam Deck Verified
          + Achievements and trading cards

          Negatives:
          ~~~~~~~~
          - Although the graphics are nice, they could have been sharper
          - Not much difference when you play on the higher levels of difficulty
          - The asking price is far too high for what you get
          Despite the slow pace for a brawler and the elevated asking price, I had fun playing this game. If a fan of the TV series, you might want to get it now. Otherwise, wait for a good discount before grabbing it!
          6/10
          Note: This game was not received for free; I purchased it through the Steam store. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own!
          I've played a lot of the TellTale The Walking Dead games, and I always imagined how cool it would be to have a survival game with an old-school vibe, and then I came across this game. The gameplay can be challenging, especially when the screen gets full of Walkers, but with a bit of strategy and by reading the objective descriptions, the game gets really fun. The pixel art is also superb; I loved the art style and the mix of 3D environments with pixel art characters. Overall, in my opinion, the game is an 8/10.
