short review and ranking of each vhs 2 game in my opinion:
1: you have x missed calls: by far the longest and most interesting game of the pack, rich story, a lot of thinking and adventure without ever moving out of your couch. it actually makes you feel like you are digging into a conspiracy, to the point that some times i tabbed out of the game by accident while searching for information in the in-game computer, it's an amazing thriller and it alone is worth buying vhs2, i'd watch a movie adaptation of this game.
2: hi what's your emergency: this game is amazing at telling story and emotions trough gameplay mechanics, it not only explores the struggles of a child in an abusive family, but it also digs into how uncaring and cruel is the world that it's meant to protect him.
3:coin locker baby: not really focused on gameplay, this game does include a lot of heavy and real themes, and they are presented trough very dark and violent visual allegories, it's the kind of game that leaves you thinking for a while after finishing it.
4:strike from the skies: i really liked the use of morse code to communicate in this game, the story is fine, but it's strong point was the gameplay and vibes.
5:deadman's hand: hold them: a cool card game with a charming set of characters, and a cool story. most of the game is playing cards, so i really appreciate they gave us dificulty options in case card games aint your thing.
6:heartwood: a semi open world platformer with a very well designed map, most of the game feels pretty chill when it comes to vibes, but it still honors the title of "violent horror story", and the ending was pretty good, this game has quite the potential to be expanded even further, specially since navigating the map and platforming felt so good, and i wish i could see more of the characters too.
7: the village and the dead: you need to ask questions to villagers to investigate a crime. at the start its a bit tricky, but it gets better as it develops. the plot is quite good, but the ending is kinda abrupt. i really liked it
8:coupon for a million: a puzzle game where you need to do small quests trough a bunch of rooms. the characters are few but they are very charming, and the puzzles are quite tricky, maybe too tricky, but it depends on your taste on these kind of stuff.
9:the exit is inside: the art is amazing, but it ends too quickly, like, so quickly that it feels like the demo of a demo, and while the premise is interesting, the story doesn't go anywhere, it just ends. the gameplay itself its fine, just doing minigames related to surgery and managing inventory.
10:padishah's lady: a simple game about control and power. the ambientation it's actually quite unsettling, and the gameplay is simple and fine, but gets a bit repetitive, the twist at the end was wild, but the game would benefit from having the characters say actual dialogues instead of communicating exclusively by mumbles and body language.
11:down the stairs: this game feels half done and buggy. but i appreciate the intent and can see passion behind it, specially since it tackles quite a sad and real theme. i just wish the devs fixed some bugs and made it feel less clunky
Basically a collection of short itch.io horror games. I got it on sale for $4.
The issue with having so many games is that there is so many different types of them, from different devs too. The issue here is that you are most likely not going to like all of them, and the ones you do like end up being too short to feel satisfying.
Buy the game if you are bored or really want a few of the short games badly. Other than that, just look around and buy a full sized-game you know you'll like.
a little confusing but worth playing
An interesting, varied collection. I enjoyed my time on this one, and there are a few standouts that could be released standalone.
To be honest, I went in blind, and so far only played "you have [x] missed calls". At first I was very confused, but then I started actually paying attention and not just browsing the phone book, and then I got one ending, and then another, and then another, and it's like the gift that keeps on giving.
I played this game with my headphones on, no light, and I was completely immersed in the story.
Just an FYI, don't stop. Keep playing. Keep calling. Keep digging.
