What players say about Hollywood Animal
Hollywood Animal offers a unique, deeply complex movie studio management experience with impressive production values and a mature, dark narrative tone. While many players find the core loop addictive and highly detailed, the current Early Access build suffers from significant balancing issues, technical bugs, and a rigid, unskippable tutorial that frustrates those looking for a traditional sandbox experience.

What players criticise
-
Difficult and unforgiving balance 34 of 104 reviews
New players often find the game punishing, frequently going bankrupt early due to a steep learning curve that requires specific, hidden research paths to survive.
-

A major point of contention is the inability to skip the lengthy tutorial, which makes restarting a new campaign a tedious and repetitive process.
-
Bugs and technical issues 24 of 104 reviews

Best for: Players who enjoy deep, challenging economic management simulations and are interested in the historical complexities and dark side of the 1930s film industry.
Not for you if: Players who prefer casual sandbox experiences, are easily frustrated by steep learning curves without clear guidance, or are unable to tolerate Early Access technical instability.

Roadmap

About the Game
Build exactly the studio you want
In Hollywood Animal, you can decide to build a multi-billion-dollar monster that destroys everything in its path, with blockbusters made strictly according to formulas. But this is far from your only option. You might instead create a boutique studio, and conquer the festivals with avant-garde directors. You could build a trash factory, challenging "good taste" at every turn, filling the screens with blood and spit. This game doesn't tell you how to play or limit you in anything. Just have fun making movies while you try to keep the whole thing afloat.
We shouldn't forget the film industry is just one part of a much larger and dynamic world. Wars and social upheaval, censorship and corruption, strained relations with the authorities and criminal disputes. — Some will be buried in an avalanche of problems, while others seize new opportunities. Make your moves behind the scenes, form unexpected alliances, lie and betray. There are no magic formulas in Hollywood Animal. Only those who can adapt and negotiate survive.
You're the boss, not the groundskeeper
You're the head of a movie studio, and Hollywood Animal delivers challenges fitting your status. Your attention won't be dominated by wallpaper selection and planting bushes. Your time is worth much more than that. Instead you'll be focused on which characters and themes really capture your audience's imagination. That is, while you're not focused on investing in technology that will revolutionize the industry. All while you're persuading a bright young star to sign a long-term contract — despite the fact the arrogant punk has sworn he'll never work with you again.
Of course, Hollywood Animal has everything we love about the genre — building, resource management, upgrades and the rest. — But this is just an outer shell. What matters is the choices you make and the human stories that are written in the process. Whims, prejudices, addictions, secrets from the past... show business is always a tangle of conflicts, and you will be the one to unravel it all. Let someone who works for you take care of the bushes.
Any approach is good — we are, after all, only animals
Hollywood Animal includes you in every step of the filmmaking process, from making up plots to theater distribution, and each part of the game is crafted with artistry and dedication. But the opportunities you'll have are much wider than what you'd usually expect from a tycoon strategy game. Every business has a dark side. You can follow the law — or stay on the mayor's good side. You can raise the screenwriter's salary — or remind him about the prostitute he strangled, which you yourself had hushed up. You can delay a film's release to avoid competition — or ask your friends in the mafia to clear the whole calendar.
You'll want to take great care, when picking the actor for the lead role in your Civil War epic. But in Hollywood Animal, it's just as important how many ribs you'll have to break before he accepts the part.

User Reviews
This game could be SOOO good, the mix of management with creative freedom is honestly spectacular. The thing is, its hard and take time to learn, needing multiple play-throughs to get an understanding (which i love)a. That being said, game mechanics are extremely annoying after doing them hundreds of times. After a while, cutscenes become a drag and the pollux awards felt more like an annoyance than an achievement. Making a writer write script after script is exhausting after a point, and there is no way around it since ideas max out at a score of 5. Also, its literally impossible to meet demands later in the game due to the time constrain. You can't write an produce a movie in under 200 days with specific genre requirements when the research speed is extremely slow. I literally love the idea of this game and it was so fun getting to learn, but I genuinely cannot play after my 3rd police raid in one year. Please make cut scenes skip-able and add some quality of life improvements to writing. Research speed being increased would also make the game significantly more enjoyable so i'm not hitting bottlenecks when demands start pouring. Idk I just love this game and really want it to be GOOD. I'm gonna refrain from playing until full release so they can hopefully add these much needed fixes. I want to play for HOURS but its just annoying at a point.
Hollywood Animal has a lot of potential. it could use some better tutorials or feedback about ticket sales and movie budgets; and the beginning can be very restrictive with the same handful of unlocks in every run (i would like to see randomization, and better, a free play mode). but it's a lot of fun
One of the best "running a movie studio games" I've played, though be warned it is quite hard.
Creatively rich and worth a buy, will edit to share more but wanted to bump the reviews as a starter
Best Film management sim out there bar none. They really need to release act II sooner rather then later but the core mechanics are challenging but feel rewarding once you figure them out.
