Extremely mid. Just a worse version of increknight. Between movement and autoattacking being extremely basic, there's just not much to interact with gameplay-wise. The scaling progression sucks too, just feels lazy. Kind of a slog to get through, pretty much minimum level entertainment value.

Not fun.

It's one of those games in which you just need to upgrade everything to advance, no strategy required.

This game was played in its entirety on a MacBook Air M1 8gb ram 7c gpu running MacOS Sonoma. There were no bugs or crashes throughout my time with the game. All achievements unlocked at their appropriate times.

TLDR: A great and quick "appetizer" game that can be finished in one sitting. Easy and fun, the only negative is that it does require a decent amount of quick mouse work, which could lead to tired hands. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "inoffensive".

Duncrush is a great little adventure game. There is no story, and no tutorial or instructions even. It's simple enough: try to complete the tower, and if you die, use your new gear to make yourself stronger, and use the resources gained in a fairly extensive tech tree.

The music and sounds were annoying and got turned off immediately. The graphics are pretty basic, but they are okay. One slight negative here is that some monsters do not have much differentiation from their larger, stationary, "ranged attack" versions. Some monsters are colored and animated differently if they spawn as this version. A few though, like the skeletons on Level 2, are extremely close in appearance.

The gameplay is pretty fun, in that you will have to dash around killing enemies in a tactically efficient order. Once you get some mercenaries, your role changes to that of ranged exterminator. There's a good amount of gear and perks to get here, but the resources are thrown at you with such frequency, that I found it easy to complete this game in a single sitting.

Thanks for reading this far. I would recommend this game if it is on sale or in a bundle. Just be aware of how much game you are getting.

Unable to scroll upgrade tree, rendering the game unplayable. Dev knew about it since Nov 2025 at least, going off of them responding to posts in the discussions page. Getting refund since that's a major bug that hasn't been addressed in almost a year.

Duncrush looks and feels phenomenal. Functionally it's very well put together. The visuals are great, the music is catchy and it plays smoothly. At the same time, it's a game that's managed to become really repetative and boring despite being only 2-3 hours long.

The gameplay loop is fine at first, kind of like a barebones vampire survivor game with incremental elements. There are a few ways to get stronger, which is always nice to see. Unfortunately though, the balance is so poor and the gameplay loop is so simple, the whole thing quickly transforms into you waiting to die with really nothing to do. There's absolutely no reason to move around, except for the very last stage. Upgrades and items become irrelevant, because subsequent ones are orders of magnitudes better than previous ones. And for a nodebuster kind of game, the nodes are not even interesting. They are all almost exclusively flat stat boosts. To make matters even worst, the game advertises itself by saying "[...] create your own strategy with the skill tree. Battle stronger enemies and clear challenging dungeons!", which is a blatant lie. There is no strategy in getting a flat damage or defense boost. And there is no challange to be had in dungeons, that you can clear by staying still in the middle of the room for 2 minutes, fighting enemies that do the exact same thing throughout all 15 levels.

The game does offer an endless dungeon after you beat it, that is supposed to be a rougelike mode where you can keep playing with your character. I liked the idea, but unsurprisingly, the upgrades you can choose from are flat stat boosts and nothing else. It's literally the same thing all over again, but without the nodebusting aspect or any sense of progression.

These incremental games are supposed to be addicting and satisfying to play, which Duncrush fails horribly in achiving. I really can't recommend it in good faith, even on a sale. There's just not nearly enough actual gameplay in it to be worth it.
