What players say about Alaska Gold Fever

Alaska Gold Fever is a relaxing, grind-focused resource gathering game that appeals to fans of simple, satisfying loops. While many players find the mining and building mechanics enjoyable, the experience is frequently hindered by poor optimization, performance stuttering, and a perceived lack of depth in the game's later stages.

What players like

  • Satisfying mining and crafting 14 of 42 reviews

The core loop of digging, gathering, and smelting gold is widely cited as relaxing and addictive, effectively scratching a specific itch for resource-management fans.

  • Cozy atmosphere and setting 9 of 42 reviews

Players appreciate the gold rush frontier setting, noting that building up their own town and mine provides a rewarding sense of progression.

  • Active development 7 of 42 reviews

Reviewers often note that the developers are consistent with updates and responsive to requests, which gives some hope for the game's future.

What players criticise

  • Poor technical optimization 15 of 42 reviews

A significant number of users report persistent stuttering, frame drops, and general lag, which many find ruins the experience regardless of the gameplay.

  • Shallow gameplay loop 12 of 42 reviews

Many players feel the game lacks variety; mechanics like hunting and building feel superficial, and the game can become an repetitive grind once the initial novelty fades.

  • Questionable DLC strategy 8 of 42 reviews

Players are frustrated by the announcement of paid DLC while the base game still suffers from bugs and content gaps, leading to concerns about the developers' priorities.

Best for: Players who enjoy slow-paced, meditative survival and crafting games where the primary goal is gathering resources and building up a small operation.

Not for you if: Players who prioritize high-end performance, fluid optimization, or complex, deep game mechanics, as the current state of technical issues may lead to frustration.

Alaska Gold Fever — questions players ask

Is the game well-optimized?
No, performance is a common complaint. Many players report micro-stuttering, low GPU utilization, and general lag, even on capable hardware.
Is there enough content to keep playing?
Opinions are mixed. While some players find the loop satisfying enough to sink dozens of hours into, others feel the game lacks depth, becomes repetitive quickly, and runs out of unique content after about 15-30 hours.
Does it have controller or Steam Deck support?
Reviews do not explicitly confirm native controller support, but some players mention janky controls, particularly with vehicles like the dog sled.

About the Game

Mine Gold Like During the Real Gold Rush!

Experience a gold mining process inspired by historical methods from the gold rush era.

Break rocks, collect ore, and separate gold from the soil using various tools and machines. Then smelt it into gold bars that you can sell at the bank.

During the game you will find different forms of gold:

  • gold dust

  • gold flakes

  • gold nuggets

Each type has a different value and requires the proper refining process. As you progress through the game, you will unlock better tools and mining techniques.

A System of Mines to Discover

In the game you can discover and explore a total of 9 mines.

  • 5 small mines for quick expeditions

  • 3 medium mines with branching tunnels

  • 1 large multi-level mine

Each mine has its own unique atmosphere and several to dozens of segments to discover.

Working in a mine is dangerous. If you do not place supports correctly, tunnels may collapse. Build reinforcement structures, expand your infrastructure, and explore deeper underground.

Upgrade Tools and Equipment

Your tools determine how fast and efficiently you can mine gold.

Create upgraded versions of your equipment and enhance them using rare materials and gemstones.

Possible upgrades include:

  • increased tool durability

  • faster resource extraction

  • ability to break harder rock

  • additional equipment upgrades

Good game. it's like a mix between an RPG and a survival game. The latest October 2026 build fixed the performance issue. I'm getting around 84 FPS consistently when playing the game. The highest I've seen was 87 FPS and the lowest is 74 FPS. However, the menu screen is still 13 - 15 FPS for me.

I've completed everything in this game: main campaign, side quests and the Bandits DLC. When I opened my map I see that I've cleared all the question marks that's on the map. However, when I got to the church, there are still two question mark designated as undiscovered area. I thought I've fully explored everything, but guess not. Anyways, I've had my fill with this game. I won't waste any more time trying to find what those two undiscovered area are. On to the next game in my backlog.

Oh, one last thing. There is one last main mission where I have to wait for my family arrival. I've been waiting and sleeping to pass time for several days already, but nothing is happening. Might be a bug. I won't stick around to find out. The moonshine building is still bugged. There are three moonshine distiller or whatever they're called. In the beginning before I do any upgrades, I see three. However, after I've upgraded everything, only two shows up at a time. Each time I go to sleep, when I wake up, one goes missing and the previous shows up, and it's random like this. I'm playing the latest build too.

This game runs very poorly (as others have mentioned). The game needs a lot of optomization - I set everything to low settings and still was only getting 15-30fps. Not what I expect with a heavy rig like I have. I can run Cyberpunk2077 better than this. Until it's fixed it'll be a negative review for me.

Edit: So here's the thing, the game is a lot of fun - decent story, good progression, loop is good. It's the performance. I appreciate the response from the developer, and will revisit this game in the future to be sure.
