Outbreak: Contagious Memories

You’re trapped in a city ravaged by the undead - can you make it out alive? Join Lydia in her desperate struggle to escape, either alone or with a friend in co-op, in this chilling love letter to classic 90s survival horror. Outbreak: Contagious Memories is available now!

About the Game

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares twists the series' survival horror gameplay by adding elements of roguelike gameplay. You'll need to explore, hunt for supplies, uncover clues, and fight your way through each anomaly – each consisting of semi-procedurally generated instances where both the environment, and the undead, are out to kill you!

Immediately after the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, you find yourself trapped within the remains of Arzt Memorial Hospital – the hub to organize your inventory and storage cache, level up your character, or just to take a breather before venturing back out into the chaos. There’s more to discover in the world besides murderous hordes of the undead – find the journals scattered about to learn more about the outbreak and ultimately where to find refuge! Don’t think death can save you – every time you die, you'll awake trapped in this nexus.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares focuses on extreme replayability by offering multiple character options – each with their own abilities, upgrade paths and more! Each time you venture into the anomaly, it’ll change and become increasingly difficult as you grow in power. You'll need to think carefully about what weapons, healing items, and other supplies you'll bring along. If you're lucky, you may find storage caches that give you access to your expanded inventory, and offer an opportunity to restock. But it's all on you to search your environment for supplies. If you run out ... your fate is sealed!

Lydia's nightmares continue as she faces her greatest fears! Immediately following the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, she and her fellow survivors find themselves trapped in a dilapidated school-turned-hospital during the outbreak. Soon, they discover something worse than the undead is after them ...

They’re experiencing hallucinations and find themselves trapped in an endless loop of horror! They'll need to work together to understand the nature of this anomaly and ultimately find a way to free themselves – or be trapped forever.

The screen is so Janky, it makes me motion sick. This is horrible, I tried to refund it but passed the time allowance. Thank god I only paid a few bucks for it, but before you do make sure to read the reviews!

If you like the early Res Evil series, 1 & 2 etc rough type games you will like this one, it is not as polished, but it does give that 2000 era type of atmosphere, graphic wise it is good giving an eerie look to the game, combat ok nothing special, buy it on sale not worth the £11.39 price tag it as in April 2026. I played it first in 2021, and now in 2026, nothing seems to have changed, it is worth a couple of hours of your time, but sadly not a classic.

Sadly, I can't really recommend this game over the vast majority of its contemporaries. There are simply way too many better classic style survival horror games.

There is something quite interesting and creative about the idea behind this game though, and I think it's important to point out how unique the set up here is. This is the only survival horror game I have ever seen that has a hub world with levels locked behind collectables found in the game. Honestly, it's genuinely really fascinating to see a game with fixed camera angles and tank controls building off of the game structure of Mario 64 and if it were executed better I think there could very well be something here.

Alas, despite intriguing design choices, the package as a whole just feels awful. The co-op in theory would be the biggest draw but it in fact makes it even harder to properly get into because you now have to convince 2 players to struggle through the following gripes, and many more:
      - poorly conceived menus (which both players control simultaneously - inventory included which just feels like a joke and frequently caused the second player controller to mess up after closing the menu)
      - extremely sloppy level designs littered with obnoxious traps that can kill you in a moments notice resulting in restarting from the hub area without regaining any used items and usually having broken weapons.
      - Completely vacuous story (not that that's why I checked this game out, I had low expectations but the game sort of just drops you into this weird over-world with grim reaper looking guys hanging around and you go find a level to die in). Maybe the developer was going for a souls-like approach to the story here, as you can chat with the reaper guys and there's the odd mention of the protagonist not knowing what's going on here and there, but there's simply no intrigue and absolutely nothing established to entice the player into moving forward, especially when the game play is as under-cooked as it is.

I could pick this thing apart a lot more, but I think you get the idea. I had a bit of fun playing it with a friend, but not for the right reasons and it was short lived.

I absolutely love classic style survival horror, so I am willing to give any game like this a fair chance. There is no shortage of phenomenal fixed camera survival horror games coming out right now, so unless you are obsessive like me and feel like you need to try all of them no matter what the quality, then I suggest you skip this one and instead visit my curator page and find something that's actually fun to play within the genre:

Only if you like this sort of thing :

      - It has no story, no campaign.
      - But a series of scenaries replayed again and again with little variations.
      Roguelite/Roguelike, procedural.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

Instead, I thoroughly loved the campaigns of these other games:

      - Outbreak The Nightmare Chronicles.
Fixed camera angles, don't usually like that, but game was so fine, in no time I was moving smoothly.

      - Outbreak Contagious Memories.
Choose with a key at any time, 1st person, 3rd person or fixed camera angles, that's a thougthful choice for you.
